COULOMMIERS, France

8 kms/5 miles, prosperous town of 21,000 inhabitants, picturesque pedestrian city streets, market Wednesday and Sunday mornings, wonderful flowered, park, canals and XVIII century ruins, beautiful church, swimming pool, railroad station to Paris, Commercial Centers, gasoline/petrol, 2 large supermarkets, etc. The city has more bridges than Paris. Several canals, cobblestone streets and winding sidewalks make it a great place to walk, window shop, stop for coffee or lunch and more. Emergency services are available.

Coulommiers is 8 km (5 miles) away from Saints, has everything you could possibly want, including larger grocery stores, a fun outdoor market twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays. This market is terrific. You can buy all kinds of fresh foods as well as inexpensive clothes and much more. If you go, you must try some of the famous Brie cheeses, for which our region of France is so famous. The "Coulommiers" is just one of the famous cheeses and is considered by many to be the best of all French cheeses. The following are photos of Coulommiers' main square, taken on a recent Sunday morning market day. It's a great place to go to people watch, get fresh fish, meat, vegetables, pastries, and even clothing and other miscellaneous items. My favorite is one gentleman who sells paella that he cooks in a huge "vat" about three feet across. Note that there are more photos here.
